Players and coaches are dedicating a Minnetonka lacrosse game to a teammate killed by Carver County Sheriff deputies nearly a week ago.

The Tonka lacrosse followers spent Wednesday night remembering 16-year-old Archer Amorosi before a summer league game against Lakeville North.

Before the start of the game, players left a spot where Amorosi once stood -- a touching tribute to a fallen teammate.

BCA officials say Amorosi was suicidal and armed with a handgun-style BB gun and a hatchet when he was shot multiple times Friday by law enforcement. Officers arrived at the home after receiving a 911 call from his mother

Amorosi's teammates, coaches and the entire stadium held a moment of silence before releasing white balloons in his honor.

Then, they started playing for number 25 with his helmet sitting on the sideline.

“He was a beloved teammate—I’ve heard that over the past few days—the students have talked about him—they talked about him at the service with just how well-respected and loved he was,” said Minnetonka High School Principal Jeff Erickson.

Principal Erickson says this is a tragedy his students have been struggling to understand. He attended Amorosi's funeral service earlier in the day.

“It was a beautiful service and it really talked about who he is as a person—being passionate, being caring and the love in the room and the support for the entire school community and obviously the family as well,” said Erickson.
