A Morrison County Sheriff's deputy was hit by a car and sustained life-threatening injuries while directing traffic near a country music festival in Pierz, Minnesota.

A Morrison County Sheriff's deputy was hit by a car and sustained life-threatening injuries while directing traffic near a country music festival in Pierz, Minnesota.

Deputy Brady Joe Pundsack, 26, was handling traffic on Highway 25 during Freedom Fest when a Ford Edge driven by a 17-year-old boy traveling north on the same highway struck the officer, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Pundsack was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old driver was not injured, nor was a 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in the same vehicle, the State Patrol said.

On Sunday, a spokesperson from CentraCare said Deputy Pundsack was currently in fair condition at St. Cloud hospital.

Facebook posts from the Morrison County Sheriff's Office show Pundsack was sworn in on Nov. 5, 2020. This April, he spoke to eighth and ninth graders about the dangers of vaping, including the use of THC cartridges.

Along with serving in the sheriff's office, Deputy Pundsack was also a member of the Flensburg City Council. Flensburg Mayor Jim Gorka called Pundsack a friend, adding: "He is one of the most outstanding young men that I've ever met in my life."

The incident is under investigation.

Deputy hurt after being hit by driver in Pierz

A Morrison County deputy is fighting for his life after being hit by an SUV at a music festival over the weekend. Deputy Brady Pundsack, 26, of Flensburg, was directing traffic at the Pierz Freedom Fest when he was hit, the Minnesota State Patrol's report says. A 17-year-old driving a Ford Edge hit the deputy on Highway 25 Saturday night. Pundsack was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A hospital spokesperson says as of Sunday, the deputy is in fair condition. The SUV driver and his 16-year-old passenger were not hurt.
