Millions of people deal with an autoimmune disease, with nearly all of them showing outward symptoms.

Now, a Minnesota native is taking on a project to get people talking about the challenges that come with a condition called Crohn's Disease, which causes an inflammation of the digestive tract.

The diagnosis comes with a lifetime of serious side effects such as abdominal and joint pain, diarrhea and always needing to know where a bathroom is.

Rather than hide behind the embarrassing aspects of her condition, Laurel Schwartz hopes to shine a light on the issue with a self-produced documentary called "Running Breathless" about living with Crohn's Disease.

"The film is a really vulnerable part of my life," she said. "This is what I have to deal with."
