Northeast Minneapolis fire deaths are first of 2025
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A fire in northeast Minneapolis on Tuesday night left a woman and dog dead in the city’s first fire deaths of the new year.

What we know:
According to the Minneapolis Fire Department (MFD), around 6:32 p.m. fire crews responded to reports of a fire in a 2.5-story residential duplex located at 1007 19th Ave. NE.
When they arrived, firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor, but no fire.
After gaining entry to the building, it was determined that a smoldering couch had been on fire, which crews extinguished.
During a search, fire crews found one adult woman and one dog on the floor of the unit. They were determined to be deceased at the scene.
This fire fatality is the first fire fatality of 2025 in Minneapolis, the MFD says.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
