BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) - For the past three seasons, Trey Flowers has been one of the New England Patriots' best defensive players. But Flowers lost more than just the opportunity to win another Super Bowl ring while he was in Minnesota this February.
Sources tell Fox 9 Flowers was the victim of theft after he stayed at the JW Marriot at the Mall of America for Super Bowl week.
According to a search warrant, when Flowers checked out of the team hotel the day after the big game,
he left a gold and diamond Rolex worth $33,000 and a gold and diamond necklace worth $30,000 in his room safe. But when he contacted the hotel, staff had no record of any items being recovered from his room.
Investigators say hotel surveillance cameras captured a security guard leaving his office with a safe opening tool the day Flowers checked out and then return with a jewelry box a short time later. Surveillance video showed him looking around his office, then taking something shiny from his pants pocket, presumably the necklace and manipulating it before putting it back in his pocket. The security guard is also captured on video removing the Rolex from the jewelry box and looking at it several times before putting it in his coat pocket.
According to the search warrant, the employee was suspended from his job. Bloomington police arrested him, but he was released without charges while they investigate further.
Investigators say so far the Rolex and necklace have not been found.
