Latest updates: Search for dad who saved 2 kids, went under on Mississippi River in Elk River
ELK RIVER, Minn. (FOX 9) - The search continues for man who reportedly went underwater in the Mississippi River near Elk River and didn’t resurface Friday.
According to the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, around 11:45 a.m. Friday, several people were struggling in the water at Rivers Edge Commons in Elk River.
One man and two children were swimming on a sandbar in the river when the two children began to struggle in the current, authorities said. The man grabbed one of the children and was able to get her to the sandbar. The man then jumped in to get the second child, and was able to push the child to shore. The man then disappeared under the water.
The children told first responders at the scene that their dad was missing, the sheriff's office said.
Multiple agencies continue to search for the man.
