One man is dead and another person is in critical condition after a shooting Sunday on the 7th Street Bridge over I-94 in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis.

According to Minneapolis Police spokesperson John Elder, the shooting occurred just after 2 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a shooting involving two cars.

The deceased victim's family told FOX 9 that 21-year-old Denzyl Percell Bacon Jackson died at the scene.

"I had to walk away because I had tears in my eyes because, to see some of the family members weeping at the very notion of finding out, looking at the scene, and seeing that their loved one is in a vehicle possibly dead. It's unfathomable. It's indescribable," said Jamar Nelson, of a Mother's Love.

Nelson was on the scene comforting those in mourning.

Homicide investigators responded to the scene and spoke with people who were in the area at the time of the shooting. The Minneapolis Crime Lab is also investigating the shooting.

Nobody is in custody at this time.

"The onus is on us to turn this guy in," Nelson said about finding the suspects. "You know something, say something."

"Protect your community, your family members and yourself by telling information that you know," Nelson added. "It's not snitching. It's being safe."

Elder added that the emotional crowd gathered at the crime scene required police reinforcements after people broke through the police tape. The State Patrol assisted Minneapolis Police at the scene.

MPD did not know of any motive for the shooting Sunday, but added that the investigation is in its infancy.

This marks the seventh murder in Minneapolis in 2019 so far.
