Police: 4 Orono homes burglarized while owners were out of town
ORONO, Minn. (FOX 9) - Police in Orono, Minnesota are warning residents about a series of burglaries that occurred in the area at homes when the owners were out of town.
The burglaries were reported on Edgewood Hills Road, Brown Road South and Concordia Avenue in Orono and Woodbridge Road in Minnetonka Beach.
Two of the incidents were attempted break-ins by objects thrown through a door or window. In both instances, alarms scared the burglars off before they could get inside the home. In one of the incidents, burglars were able to break into the home and took some items.
A neighbor interrupted the fourth burglary after the alarm system alerted the homeowner.
Police offered the following tips for residents to secure their homes when they are out of town.
- Only tell those you need to tell that you are going to be leaving on a trip.
- Don’t post on social media until after you return from a trip, instead of before or during.
- Don’t have work done on your house while you are gone unless you have someone checking on it regularly.
