NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (KMSP) - The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Henry McCabe's body was pulled from Rush Lake in New Brighton on Monday evening. McCabe was a Department of Revenue auditor who had been missing since Labor Day; volunteers searched for McCabe on multiple occasions since his disappearance.
Authorities said a person kayaking in the lake noticed something and alerted police around 4:30 p.m. At the time, police didn’t know how long the body had been in the lake, but did say it has been there for quite a while.
"At this time, the death does not appear to be suspicious, but the cause of death is still undetermined pending toxiciology result," Mounds View Police Department said in a press release. "The police department wishes to thank the numerous volunteers involved during search efforts the last several weeks."
Mounds View police previously said the last pings from McCabe’s cell phone indicated he may have been in the vicinity of Creekview Park in New Brighton when he disappeared.
Surveillance video showed the 32-year-old Mounds View man had been dropped off by an acquaintance in Fridley at the Holiday gas station off Central Ave. and Hackman Ave. in the early morning on Sept. 7. Police discovered McCabe called not only his wife that night, but his brother and left a voicemail -- Although the message is hard to understand, the emotion heard in McCabe’s voice added to the mystery.
This case remains under investigation by the Mounds View Police Department, the New Brighton Police Department and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.
