Violent weekend in St. Paul

Two homicides and a serious shooting at a post office made for a violent weekend in St. Paul.

St. Paul police say a postal employee shot a coworker at a post office on Sunday.

What we know

Police responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the report of a shooting at the post office branch along West 7th Street near the I-35E exit.

Inside the post office, officers found a man who had been shot multiple times.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with what police are saying are life-threatening injuries.

Suspect arrested

Police say the suspect left the scene but was arrested a little over an hour later at West 7th Street and Madison Street, about a mile southwest of the crime scene.

Officers say the suspect knew the victim and was also a postal employee.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation.

Violent weekend in St. Paul 

The shooting at the post office was one of several violent incidents in St. Paul over the weekend. 

On Saturday night, a man was fatally shot in the city's North End neighborhood near Woodbridge Street and Wheelock Parkway. Police said responding officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near the intersection. The man reportedly died after being transported to the hospital. 

On Friday night, a man was fatally stabbed at a gas station on the 200 block of East 7th Street. Police say the victim was found in the parking lot and was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A suspect in the fatal stabbing remained on the scene and was taken into custody. Meanwhile, police have not announced any arrests in Saturday's fatal shooting. Both incidents remain under investigation.
