(FOX 9) - A man and several children had to be rescued after a barge struck the boat they were in, capsizing it near the Ole Miss Marina in Red Wing on Friday evening,
According to a press release from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office:
Jeremy Koenig was steering the boat, which had four children on board when it stalled in the path of the barge, resulting in the collision, which occurred around 5:48 p.m on Friday. All the children were wearing life vests.
Koenig’s five-year-old son was stuck underneath the boat after it capsized, but Koenig was able to pull him back to the surface, according to the press release.
Paramedics performed life-saving measures on the boy and then transported him by ambulance to a hospital. The boy is currently in Mayo Rochester Pediatric ICU.
There was no alcohol involved. The incident remains under investigation.
