Search resumes for missing Moundsview state auditor
Volunteers resumed their search Saturday for the Minnesota Department of Revenue auditor from Mounds View, Minn. who has been missing since Labor Day.
31-year-old Henry McCabe was last seen at a SuperAmerica gas station in Fridley near Highway 65 and 73rd Avenue, about three miles from his house.
Friends said McCabe left the C’est La Vie nightclub in Spring Lake Park with acquaintance early in the morning on Sept. 7, who according to McCabe’s friends asked for directions to his house.
“Henry said ‘Don't worry just drop me to the gas station’,” Calvin Johnson, McCabe’s friend, said. “[The acquaintance] said, ‘Why would I do that?’ And Henry said ‘Brother just drop me to the gas station I'm going to be fine, this whole area is my area’.”
McCabe was left by his acquaintance at the gas station.
McCabe’s wife of 11 years, Kareen, was in California with the couple’s two daughters, a one-year-old and a nine-year-old, at the time. She sais she called McCabe around 2:23 a.m. on Sept. 7 to check in, well after he had left the nightclub, according to McCabe’s friends.
“He was like ‘let me call you back’,” then a few minutes later his phone pocket dialed me and I could hear him speaking, it sounded as though he was speaking to someone but they weren't responding,” McCabe’s wife said.
Kareen said she received several more pocket dials from McCabe.
“A few pocket dials later the last call I had with him he cried out as though he were hurt and then the phone hung up,” Kareen said.
On Saturday, a large of McCabe’s friends and colleagues searched the stretch from the gas station to his house, about a 40-minute walk.
McCabe’s coworkers have a hard time believing he would take such a walk, especially so early in the morning.
“I don't think that was good judgment on the part of the person who dropped him off especially at that hour,” Sayle Suworgo, McCabe’s friend, said.
McCabe leads the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees and recently advocated for paid parental leave.
