Semi drives off I-35 into St. Louis River, body of driver recovered

Authorities have recovered the body of a semi-truck driver after his vehicle went off Interstate 35 and into the St. Louis River near Scanlon, Minnesota early Friday morning.

At approximately 4:41 a.m., the driver, a 44-year-old Duluth man, lost control of the semi. It hit the median and went into the river, according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Neil Dickenson.

Road conditions due to rain and snow were likely a factor in the crash.

Crews pulled the semi from the river. They located the body of the semi driver in the river a short time later. His identity has not been released.

State Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident.
