On Monday, the Minnesota Senate stood in silence to honor late music icon, Prince, and introduced a bill to make purple the official state color.

Sen. Karin Housley introduced the bill, and noted the purple tribute can mean many things to Minnesotans -- perhaps a nod to the Vikings' purple and gold.

"What triggered the whole the whole bill and the idea behind it was seeing the whole world lit up after Prince's passing. We in Minnesota loved him and appreciated him, he gave so much back to Minnesota, but to see how he shared his gifts with the world was amazing," she said.

When asked his favorite song, Dayton was quick to acknowledge "Purple Rain."

“He was such a phenomenal representative of Minnesota and our music industry here. We owe him eternal debt of gratitude,” Dayton said last Friday.

“Purple has been my color since I could tell the colors apart."
