What we know:
Alexandra House has announced an addition to its Emergency Shelter program for domestic violence victims, Linus' Pet Haven.
Linus' Pet Haven was opened to help survivors of domestic violence eliminate having to choose between safety and their pets.
Organizers say that 71% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser "threatened, harmed, or killed a pet", with about half delaying leaving abusive situations due to not wanting to leave their pets behind.
Linus' Pet Haven has co-sheltering for up to six pets, for a wide variety of pets. Its services also include routine veterinary care, with indoor and outdoor spaces for pets.
Alexandra House provides free services for people who are affected by domestic, sexual, relationship and elder abuse. It provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, housing assistance and more for survivors of abuse.
What they're saying:
"Linus’ Pet Haven is more than a shelter; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to our commitment to comprehensive care for survivors," said Connie Moore, Executive Director of Alexandra House. "We believe no one should have to choose between their safety and their beloved pet, and this initiative ensures they won’t have to."
