MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - If you happened to be around Lake Harriet Sunday afternoon, you didn’t see people practicing yoga… they were practicing snoga!
You read that right—snoga is exactly what it sounds like: yoga in the snow.
Yess Yoga hosted the free event on Lake Harriett. The group embraces its Minnesota roots, practicing yoga during both hot and humid summers and cold and frosty winters.
“Snoga is an event that we have been doing for the last five years,” said organizer Lucia Yess of Yess Yoga. “We always love to bring awareness about movement and connection to your mind and your body.”
Organizers encouraged people to bundle up and wear warm clothes. Between the snow, ice and winter gear balancing and holding poses can be a little tricky, but still fun, snoga organizers told Fox 9.
Organizers enjoy hosting the event because stepping outside the studio provides an informal and inclusive environment to practice yoga.
“We really believe in the idea of getting people together in Minnesota, especially outdoors in the wintertime and deepening the connection with ourselves and the community,” Yess said. “Having an event outside of a studio—more people feel like they can be included and welcome.”
Anyone was welcome to join, organizers even said a few dogs joined the fun Sunday afternoon.
