MN weather: Snowy Thursday forecast update

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Parts of the Twin Cities metro are declaring snow emergencies following the largest snow storm so far this season.
Minneapolis snow emergency
What to know: The City of Minneapolis has declared a snow emergency beginning Dec. 19 at noon, with parking rules taking effect beginning at 9 p.m.
On Dec. 20, residents are told to not park on either side of a snow emergency route until 8 p.m., or once the street is fully plowed. Do not park on even-numbered sides of a non-emergency route until 8p.m.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, the rules are reversed, and people are asked not to park on the odd-numbered side of the street.

St. Paul snow emergency
What to know: Beginning at 9 p.m. on Dec. 19, all the city’s "night plow routes" will be plowed, which includes downtown and all streets with signs posted. Vehicles not moved will be ticketed or towed.
Then, starting at 8 a.m. on Dec. 20, all "day plow routes" will be plowed, with the same restrictions as the previous day’s efforts. However, the "day plow routes" are not marked by signs, and are assumed if no "night plow route" designation is present.
A snow emergency declaration lasts 96 hours, or until Dec. 23, at 9 p.m.

Other cities
Local perspective: Several other cities throughout the Twin Cities area are also declaring snow emergencies.
- Bloomington: A snow emergency will be in effect starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday. Do not park on Bloomington streets for 48 hours, or until the street has been plowed full width (whichever occurs first). For current info, you can call 952-563-8768.
- Crystal: The City of Crystal has declared snow parking restrictions effective Friday, Dec. 20 at 12:01 a.m. Parking is prohibited on all public streets and alleys until the snow has stopped accumulating and the street or alley has been plowed edge to edge. Vehicles parked on streets or alleys during snow emergencies could be tagged and/or towed at the owner’s expense.
- Elk River: The City of Elk River has declared a snow event which brings overnight parking restrictions that will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday. The parking restrictions will remain in effect until the city lifts them. For more information and a map of designated overnight parking locations, click here.
- Montevideo: The City of Montevideo has declared a snow emergency starting at 3 a.m. No parking on avenues until the snow emergency is lifted. On the streets, there is no parking between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., or until plowed.
