St. Paul police investigating early morning shooting death
ST. PAUL (KMSP) - St. Paul police are investigating after an early morning shooting near Lafond Avenue and Dale Street North left one person dead.
Around 5 a.m., officers responded to the area on a report of a fight. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Regions Hospital where he later died.
Fox 9 spoke with the man's family, saying he was in his 20's and worked in the area. His relatives say he had been trying to break up a fight when he was shot.
Investigators spoke with several witnesses and no arrests have yet been made.
This is St. Paul's 18th murder so far in 2017.
During a press briefing, St. Paul Police told media that in the spring, shots fired had increased 75 percent. Throughout 2017, 1,100 shots were fired within city limits.
