Stewart Mills to request recount in Minnesota's 8th District
(KMSP) - Stewart Mills will request a recount in the race for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, Fox 9 confirmed Monday.
The former Republican candidate lost the election to incumbent Democrat Rick Nolan by approximately 2,009 votes, around 0.6 percent of the vote, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
The margin is too large to trigger an automatic state-funded recount. But, state law allows Mills to request a hand recount as long as he is willing to pay for it himself.
Mills and Nolan also faced off in the 2014 midterm election, where Nolan beat Mills by approximately 3,700 votes.
