Trump named Time's 'Person of the Year'

President-elect Donald Trump was named Time magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year on Thursday.
Sam Jacobs, Time's editor-in-chief, announced on NBC's "Today" show on Thursday morning that Trump was Time’s 2024 Person of the Year. Jacobs said Trump was someone who "for better or for worse, had the most influence on the news in 2024," the Associated Press reported.
Trump edged a short list of other finalists, including Vice President Kamala Harris, X owner Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Kate, the Princess of Wales.
He was previously named Time’s Person of the Year in 2016, the year he won the presidency for the first time after defeating Hillary Clinton.
On Thursday, Trump will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange just blocks from that courthouse and be recognized by Time magazine as its person of the year, the Associated Press reported.

Trump is expected to be on Wall Street to mark the ceremonial start of the day’s trading, according to four people with knowledge of his plans.
According to the AP, the NYSE typically invites celebrities and business leaders to participate in the 9:30 a.m. ET ceremonial opening trading. Thursday will be Trump's first time doing the honors.
In Time’s shortlist description, it said, "He has reshaped the American electorate, activating young male voters who propelled him to a decisive victory that saw him win the popular vote for the first time and turn every swing state red."
"His 2024 win is history-making in multiple ways: he will be the oldest President in U.S. history, and he was convicted earlier this year by a New York jury of 34 counts of fraud, making him the first convicted felon to be elected President," Time continued in its shortlist description.
Every year, Time magazine names a person, group or concept that had the biggest impact on the world in the previous 12 months. Taylor Swift, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Musk have won in recent years.
Trump's campaign promises have included promises to deliver historic levels of economic growth, and the individuals he's selecting for his incoming administration are from the business sector.
