Top Teacher: Mississippi Elementary's Kevin Nystedt honored

FOX 9 is honoring Top Teachers throughout the Twin Cities metro area for their hard work and dedication during the school year.

FOX 9’s Kelcey Carlson presented the latest award to Mr. Kevin Nystedt, a physical education teacher at Mississippi Elementary School in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He received the special honor during his retirement celebration Wednesday. He will be retiring at the end of school year in June.

Catherine Briski, Nystedt’s coworker and former student, nominated him for the award, saying he has inspired students for more than 30 years.

“His outgoing personality and motivating, encouraging, never give up words of positivity are truly inspiring to all kids of different sizes and skill ability in gym class,” wrote Briski.

As a FOX 9 Top Teacher, Mississippi Elementary will receive $1,000 from Royal Credit Union and Mr. Nystedt will receive a Subway sandwich party and Top Teacher award.
