Train hits car stopped on tracks in Maple Lake

MAPLE LAKE, Minn. (KMSP) - A crash between a train and car in Maple Lake sent one man to the hospital, according to the Wright County Sheriff's Office.

Chief Deputy Hoffman says the crash happened on Birch Avenue South around 12:58 p.m.

A witness told Fox 9 he saw the car roll under the stop arms and onto the tracks.

Officials say an empty train headed westbound hit the car.

Emergency crews had to get the man out of the car. His condition is unknown, but a witness says the man was talking after the crash.

The crash caused one train car to go off the tracks.

Officials aren't certain why the car was on the tracks, but are investigating whether a medical emergency was a factor in the crash.
