Twin Cities Marathon canceled due to heat

Record-heat forced Twin Cities in Motion to cancel the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday. Despite the cancellation, some people still made the run.

The 2023 Twin Cities Marathon will not be run due to Black Flag weather conditions, race organizers announced.

With record-setting heat possible, they did not believe the marathon would be a safe.

The TC Ten Mile has also been canceled.

Twin Cities Marathon organizer on cancelation

Around 300,000 people have been effected by the Twin Cities Marathon cancelation Sunday. Charlie Mahler, a spokesperson for Twin Cities in Motion who organizes the race, speaks on the reasoning for the cancelation.

"It saddens Twin Cities In Motion and its partners to be unable to hold the races that runners have been pointing toward for months, but the safety of participants and the community will always be our primary concern. Extreme heat conditions can tax both runners and our emergency medical response systems. We ask the entire running community to come together for the safety of everyone involved," the Race Organizers said in a statement.

Additionally, runners should expect an update about refunds by Thursday.

Runners still ran after TC Marathon cancellation

The Twin Cities Marathon was canceled last-minute on Sunday due to the heat, but runners still laced up and headed out for a run wearing their bibs.
