Twin Cities metro sees white Christmas once again after last year’s warm holiday

After last year’s brown Christmas, the big question people had in the Twin Cities metro this holiday season was will it be a white or brown Christmas? It was officially a white Christmas once again in Minnesota’s big cities.

Historically, Minnesotans do experience more white Christmases than not.

Minnesotans had high hopes some wintry weather would stick around for the holidays

Local perspective: People said after last year’s brown Christmas, they were hoping for a white Christmas in Minnesota’s big cities.

What officially makes it a white Christmas is having one inch of snow on the ground on Christmas morning. Enough snow stuck around on Wednesday to make a white Christmas a reality.

What they're saying: People who were enjoying the day outdoors at Central Park in Maple Grove said the snow on the ground did add to the festive spirit of this time of year.

"So happy to see finally we have some white on the ground, so that’s kind of like a little Christmas miracle," said Emily, a parkgoer.

"I’m like it actually feels like Christmas now," said Shyann, a parkgoer.

"We were trying to find something to do out in the nice weather while we have it and enjoy the snow, so we got to get out skating and use the skates," said Bristy, a parkgoer.

While people said the snow is nice to see, what really makes the holiday season special is not measured by what is on the ground.

"Having all the grandkids enjoy the moment. I mean yes, they like all the presents, but it’s being with all their cousins, they love it," said Gretchen, a parkgoer.
