A 21-year-old woman from Andover, Minnesota attending college in the Netherlands was stabbed to death in her room Wednesday.

Erasmus University in Rotterdam confirmed Sarah Papenheim, a student, died after a stabbing at a housing complex near the campus.

Rotterdam police responded to a report of a “quarrel” at the housing complex Wednesday morning. When they arrived, they found Papenheim injured. Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

The suspect, a 23-year-old Rotterdam man, had fled the scene. Police arrested him Wednesday afternoon at a train station in Eidenhoven.

Police said Papenheim and the suspect lived in the same housing block and knew each other.

Papenheim's family told FOX 9 she had been studying psychology at the university for the past two years. She was also a talented blues drummer, often playing gigs in the Twin Cities.

A spokesperson for the university said the School of Social and Behavourial Sciences has organized a gathering and memorial room for Papeneheim. She said the university is “shocked by this terrible incident.”

The stabbing remains under investigation.
