Two Minnesotans die in Mississippi River boat crash
VERNON COUNTY, Wis. (KMSP) - Two Minnesotans are dead after a boat crash on the Mississippi River Saturday evening, according to the Vernon County, Wis., Sheriff's Department.
Diana Klankowski of Spring Grove, Minn., was pronounced dead after the 32-foot passenger boat she was on struck a concrete navigational marker near the Wildcat Campground and boat landing just south of Brownsville, Minn.
One other man was declared missing, with five others transported to a nearby hospital with varying degrees of injuries, according to the release. The missing man was later identified as Kevin Hanson, 47, of Mabel, Minn., with authorities announcing Sunday he had died in the crash.
A few other boats were in the area and immediately contacted authorities after the collision, helping to rescue those injured people who had been thrown into the water.
The incident is being investigated by the Wisconsin DNR and the Vernon County Sheriff's Office.
