The Uber driver who was seriously injured Friday night in north Minneapolis has died of his injuries, police announced Monday.

Abdishakur Sandiko, 48, had a passenger in his car while driving on Plymouth Avenue North in Minneapolis when he was hit by an SUV driver speeding southbound on Lyndale Avenue North.

The SUV driver, 42-year-old Emery Winford, is now in custody. Winford ran a red light and struck the Uber's back seat. All three people were injured.

The impact from the crash was so intense that his vehicle was forced off the roadway and onto an electrical box. By Sunday, the force of the impact was still evident as traffic lights at the intersection remained without power. Temporary stop signs directed the four-way traffic.

At Lyndale and Plymouth Ave. N. the speed limit is 30 mph. Witnesses told investigators Winford was driving twice that speed.
