University of Minnesota's Reuse Program aims to prevent waste

The University of Minnesota campus is vast. There are 250 buildings and they generate a lot of waste. Because of that, the university developed the Reuse Program to keep unwanted furniture, supplies and fixtures out of the waste stream. Instead, these items are loaded into a warehouse and twice a week the doors open for the public to shop. The best way to see what’s in the warehouse from week to week is to follow along on the University of Minnesota Reuse Program Facebook page. The warehouse is open on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The University of Minnesota has been ranked among the top in Shanghai Ranking’s 2023 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. 

According to the university, it was ranked in the top 25 globally in eight subjects.

  • Fourth in library and information science
  • 13th in management
  • 17th in communication
  • 20th in economics
  • 23rd in psychology
  • 24th in medical technology
  • 24th statistics

The University says 34 of their subjects ranked in the top 100 in the world. 

Shanghai Rankings ranks more than 1,900 universities in 104 countries and regions in their 2023 Global Ranking Academic Subjects. 

According to the University, Shanghai Rankings uses a variety of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure performance.
