Vietnamese community celebrates Lunar New Year at Burnsville Center

The Vietnamese Community of Minnesota took over the Burnsville Center on Saturday and Sunday, for a showcase of their traditional heritage.

"There’s a lot of us, and we always look forward to having our gatherings, because we feel a bit of home here when we can see all of our friends and family," visitor Christina Le told FOX 9.

The Year of the Snake

The backstory:

The Tet Festival celebrated the Lunar New Year and the year of the snake.

For event organizers, the hope was that the crowd looked as diverse as the country we all now call home.

"They are not Vietnamese, but they’re welcome to come here," Thuy said. "We are American. We are composed of many people from around the world who come here. We are only looking for freedom. With this festival, we would like to introduce something very unique about Vietnamese culture."

"To come and learn about our culture and celebrate in the New Year with us," Vietnamese Community of Minnesota General Secretary Cindy Nguyen finished.
