Warner bros. developing movie 'Clouds' based on Zach Sobiech
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Warner Bros. has acquired movie rights to the story of Minnesota teen Zach Sobiech who inspired millions with his song “Clouds” that he wrote before he died from cancer in 2013. The movie will also be titled "Clouds"
According to Variety, it will be based on Laura Sobiech’s book “Fly a Little Higher” which focused on her son's life and battle with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. “Jane the Virgin” star Justin Baldoni will direct and produce the movie.
In May of 2012, doctors informed Sobiech that he had up a year to live. In December 2012, he recorded and released the song “Clouds” on YouTube which quickly went viral. To this date, it has over 12 million views.
A choir of nearly 5,000 gathered and sang his hit song at the Mall of America a year later in 2013.
