Woman's body discovered after fire in Minneapolis home

Authorities discovered a body after a fire in a Minneapolis home early Sunday morning.

At 3:20 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a structure fire at 4217 25th Avenue South where they found fire showing from the first floor. The fire extended to the second floor inside wall and was extinguished in about 10 minutes.

During the secondary search, they found a deceased woman on the first floor. It is unknown if the death was caused by the fire. This is the second fire-related death in Minneapolis this year.

The woman has been identified as 66-year-old Karen Marie Gherity.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
