Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is headed to his third straight NBA All-Star Game.

Edwards was named a reserve for the Western Conference All-Stars when the teams were announced Thursday night. He’s the second player in franchise history to be named an All-Star at least three straight times, joining Kevin Garnett, who was an All-Star eight straight seasons from 2000-07.

This year’s NBA All -Star Game is set for Sunday, Feb. 16 at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Edwards’ All-Star history

Why it matters: Edwards played 12 minutes, 34 seconds in last year’s All-Star Game and scored four points, had one rebound and one assist. The Timberwolves have now had an All-Star selection in four straight seasons, with Karl-Anthony Towns going in 2022 and 2024.

Edwards’ season so far

By the numbers: Edwards leads the Timberwolves in scoring with 26.4 points per game. He’s also averaging 5.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He’s on pace to become the first player in franchise history to have consecutive seasons averaging 25-plus points and 5-plus rebounds.

Edwards is currently eighth in the NBA in scoring, and second among Western Conference guards. He recently passed Towns for career 3-pointers with the Timberwolves. He leads the NBA with 192 made 3-pointers this season, and is just 49 away from setting the single-season franchise record, currently held by Malik Beasley.

Edwards has 10 games of at least 30 points this season. He had a career-high 53 points earlier this month at Detroit. He’s set to make history at Utah Thursday night, he’ll become the only player in NBA history to have at least 8,000 career points, 950 made 3-pointers and 200 blocked shots in 350 career games.

What’s next

The schedule: After Thursday night’s game at Utah, the Timberwolves start a five-game home stand against the Washington Wizards Saturday night at Target Center.
