Anthony Edwards, Kevin Garnett featured together in Sprite ad
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Anthony Edwards is a busy man as the face of the Minnesota Timberwolves both on and off the court.
On the court, he helped lead the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals last season for the first time in 20 years. He also won Olympic gold with Team USA at the Summer Olympics. Away from the court, he’s locked in sponsorships with both Sprite and Adidas.
In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday, Edwards is featured in an ad for Sprite with Kevin Garnett. The two are making a store run and walking on a sidewalk when Garnett asks him, "Are you a king or a pawn?"
Edwards says, "I ain’t tryna be neither. I’m Anthony Edwards."
The Sprite Campaign
Why it matters: Edwards first signed with Sprite in 2022. Late last year, he signed a multi-million deal with Adidas to be one of the top athletes with a new shoe. The connection in this ad is obvious, as Garnett was a star for the Timberwolves and led them to the Western Conference Finals in 2004.
Edwards was also featured in a sit down interview and photo shoot with Vikings star Justin Jefferson. They recreated an iconic photo of Garnett with Randy Moss.
Edwards is one of the main faces in the Netflix docuseries "Starting 5," which follows NBA players around much like the series "Quarterback" and "Receiver." This show goes behind the scenes as Edwards and his girlfriend have their first child, and his life away from basketball.
New life without KAT
What happened: Everything was set for the Timberwolves to build off their run to the Western Conference Finals, then everything changed when the front office traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks just before the start of training camp.
The Timberwolves are currently 17-15, which is eighth in the West, and Edwards leads the team with 24.8 points per game. He’s also been fined multiple times by the NBA for his colorful language with reporters after games, and criticizing officiating. He was recently fined $100,000 for using foul language after being a repeat offender.
All that aside, Edwards is the face of the Timberwolves, and his infectious personality without fear of telling it like it is makes him a fan-favorite.
