The Minnesota Wild will be without one of its captains and top players for the rest of the season.

The Wild announced Wednesday that center Mikko Koivu is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL and meniscus in his right knee Tuesday night. Koivu was injured during the Wild’s shoot-out loss at Buffalo.

Team officials said Koivu is scheduled to have surgery on Friday.

Koivu has eight goals and 21 assists in 48 games with the Wild this season. He scored his 200th career goal at Las Vegas on Jan. 21 to become the second player in franchise history to reach that mark. Koivu leads the franchise in games played, points, assists, shots on goal, power play points, short-handed points and multi-point games.

The Wild is currently seventh in the Western Conference with 57 points and hosts Edmonton Thursday night.
