Are the Minnesota Twins taking calls on Carlos Correa?

Major League Baseball’s winter meetings are underway in Texas, and that’s where the conversations start for most teams with free agent signings and trades.

The Minnesota Twins open Spring Training in about two months, and whether Carlos Correa will be the remains slightly up in the air. Several teams have reportedly contacted the Twins to see what the asking price is on a trade for Correa.

Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey appeared on MLB Network on Monday.

"We get a lot of calls on our premium guys, Carlos being one, and a number of others. There are teams that are trying to find out where we are and what our focus is," Falvey said. "We believe in the core of this team, we believe this is a competitive team that’s going to continue to get better."

Why it matters

Correa came to the Twins in 2022 and promptly lead them to an American League Central Division title, and helped them end a 18-game playoff losing streak and 20-year playoff series drought. He returned to the Twins in 2023 on a six-year, $200 million deal after talks with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets fell through.

He played 135 games two seasons ago despite dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Last season, he played just 86 regular season games due to the same injury in his right foot.

If the Twins decide to move him, it’s an early sign that the 2025 season is a rebuild.

An offseason of change

The Pohlad family announced after the season they’re putting the team up for sale. That’s after a collapse to end the regular season, missing the American League Playoffs and announcing before the 2024 season that they were cutting payroll. Fans were angry after they were eliminated from the playoffs.

The hitting staff was replaced, and Dave St. Peter announced he’s stepping away as president and CEO. Thad Levine stepped away as general manager. Falvey will now assume St. Peter’s role.

What’s next

Falvey and Twins staffers are at the MLB Winter Meetings this week, and we’ll see if it leads to any roster changes.
