ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Bruce Boudreau made his first appearance as the new head coach of the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. on Tuesday.
Boudreau agreed to a four-year deal expected to be worth $3 million per season. He was seen as one of the top coaches up for grab in the NHL. He is the fastest coach in NHL history to reach 400 wins.
Boudreau said he is excited to coach in the State of Hockey.
“I think Minnesota’s always been good and always been tough to play against,” Boudreau said. “I love the way they play as far as that the guys that they have can skate and will play an in-your-face game. Overall, everything pointed in this direction.”
Boudreau spent the last nine seasons as a head coach with the Anaheim Ducks and the Washington Capitals. He said there is not a situation that could arise with the Wild that he has not already faced either as a player or as a coach.
“I’m looking for big things to happen and I’m excited to get started right away,” Boudreau said.
