Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy' will stay as Wild's goal song
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - The Minnesota Wild heard the Prince fans loud and clear. The team announced Tuesday that’s Prince’s” Let’s Go Crazy” will stay as the goal celebration song.
Last April, following the death of Prince, the Wild blared Let’s Go Crazy from the speakers at Xcel Energy Center, launching a full-blown party when the Wild scored 3 goals in less than 5 minutes against the Dallas Stars. The Wild were eliminated from the playoffs that night, but Let’s Go Crazy will live on!
“Our in-arena experience is designed for the fans, so it's great to be able to show them we take their feedback to heart,” said John Maher, vice president of brand, content and communications for the Minnesota Wild. “At the same time, it's our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world.”
The Minnesota Wild decided to poll season ticket holders this summer on the celebration song, and fans voted nearly 2-to-1 in favor of the change. The Wild also received a substantial number of calls, emails and social media comments from fans.
The first preseason home game for the Minnesota Wild is Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. when the team hosts the Colorado Avalanche at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild open the 2016-17 regular season in St. Louis on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., and return home to welcome the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
The Wild will also join the “Unite in Purple” celebration to honor Prince's life at the Minnesota State Fair on Friday, Aug. 26. Fans can view the Wild’s purple tribute at the team’s booth inside the Fan Central building at Dan Patch Ave. and Underwood St.
