Legendary Twins manager Ron Gardenhire inducted into team's Hall of Fame

Legendary manager Ron Gardenhire has been a favorite of Twins fans for decades, and now, that history is cemented into the baseball club's Hall of Fame. His induction ceremony was held at the Twins game against the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.

Ron Gardenhire has spent most of his life dedicated to baseball and the Minnesota Twins.

On Tuesday, Gardenhire was named the recipient of the Herb Carneal Lifetime Achievement Awards. He will be honored as part of the Minnesota Twins Diamond Awards in late January. The event will benefit research, education and care in brain, nerve and muscle disorders at the University of Minnesota. They’ve raised nearly $4 million since 2006.

Why it matters: The award honors those who game their time and dedication to Twins’ baseball. Carneal was the long-time radio voice of the Minnesota Twins.

Gardenhire’s legacy

By the numbers: Gardenhire managed the Twins for 13 seasons and is second in team history with 1,068 wins, behind only Tom Kelly. He was also the third base coach for 11 seasons, winning a World Series in 1991.

Gardenhire won the American League Central Division title in six of his 13 seasons and led the Twins to the playoffs in six of his first nine seasons. He as the AL Manager of the Year in 2010.

Gardenhire was active in raising money for the Twins Community Fund, and does a lot of charity work to fund research for ALS.

What’s next: The Twins Diamond Awards are set for Jan. 23, 2024 at The Armory in Minneapolis. That’s also the same weekend as TwinsFest at Target Field, an annual celebration of baseball before the team heads to Florida for Spring Training.
