Vinyl record sales surge

There's an old sound that's making a big comeback. Vinyl records are back in a big way. According to Variety Magazine, in the first half of the year, vinyl sales were up 21%. The boom in sales is the focus of a FOX 9 mini-documentary airing Thursday night. It's called "For the Love of Vinyl". Record shop owner Shawn Smith joined the FOX 9 Morning News to chat about his love of the old format.

New Eagan eatery has southern cuisine with modern twist

A food tour of Nashville inspired the menu behind a new restaurant in Eagan. Southern Social is located near Cliff Rd. and 35E. The restaurant specializes in smoked meats, broasted chicken and southern classics. They also offer shareable cocktails served in a glass punchbowl. They’re open seven days a week.

Meet the woman who designed Barbie’s iconic outfits

It's an explosion of pink with the opening of the Barbie Movie this weekend, but the doll wouldn't be anything without her fashion sense, and that is in part thanks to Carol Spencer. The 90 year old started designing the Barbie clothes for Mattel in the 60’s and created many of the famous looks we know today. Spencer graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1950 and attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design before moving out to Los Angeles to work for Mattel. Alix Kendall caught up with her to learn more about the experience designing outfits for the famous doll.

Water Safety tips for pet parents

Many of our pets may like going into the lake or pool, but what's the best way to keep them safe? Liv Hagen from the Animal Humane Society joined the FOX 9 Morning News along with her dog Chief to share advice for getting your pet more comfortable in the water. She also shared advice for shopping for pet life jackets.

Peanuts creator's life explored in exhibition

Minnesota’s most famous cartoonist is the inspiration behind a new exhibit at the History Center. The Life and Art of Charles M. Schulz opens on July 22nd. It explores the life of the Peanuts gang illustrator and the stories behind the creation of his characters, like the fact that he initially planned to name Snoopy, Sniffy. The exhibit will be at the Minnesota History Center through June of 2024.

The Puttery opens in Minneapolis

The Puttery opens on July 21 in Downtown Minneapolis. The 70,000-square-foot space is on the corner of Washington and Hennepin Avenue. It is just for the adults 21-plus, and offers upscale food and drinks along with three themed mini golf courses. This is the seventh Puttery location in the United States.

RENT presented by the Emerging Professionals Ensemble

The Emerging Professionals Ensemble based out of Performing Institute of Minnesota in Eden Prairie provides aspiring artists the opportunity to get a taste of how things work on the big stage. Thursday July 20th, they kick off their production of RENT. Part of the cast joined FOX 9 Good Day to chat about the show and perform a snippet of "Seasons of Love".

Art on the Edge is part art, part psychic in Linden Hills

An art show in a secret garden with a metaphysical element is planned for this weekend in Minneapolis’ Linden Hills neighborhood. Art on the Edge is Saturday, July 22nd from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on West 43rd Street East of Upton. That portion of the street will be closed, but there’s also an alley to a back garden that will be utilized. The event is the creation of Everett & Charlie gallery owner Suzie Marty and publisher of The Edge Magazine, Kelly Wagner. There will be more than 60 vendors showcasing visual art to transformative holistic practices. There will also be live music, author readings, and a psychic gallery.

Learning the ropes at Lake Minnetonka Sailing School

One of the oldest yacht clubs in the country is also home to one of the largest sailing schools in the nation. The Lake Minnetonka Sailing School, located on Lighthouse Island, recently celebrated its 50th year and it continues to grow with a mix of youthful coaches and legends like Senior Coach Gordy Bowers who won three Olympic medals as the U.S. Sailing head coach in the 1988 Olympics.
