Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store opens for the season

Every season, Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store embarks on a project to expand or renovate. During the off-season, they added a new mural in the planetarium. Muralist Shawn McCann and his team of five, spent six weeks on this project that includes a rotating ceiling. It’s an ode to several different shows and movies that have a space theme including Star Trek, Star Wars, Rick and Morty and even Spaceballs. Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store is located in Jordan in the giant yellow barn right off Highway 169. They open daily at 8am through November.

Goat yoga at The Hayloft in Hastings

A ranch in Hastings with a loveable lineup of animals is giving visitors a chance to lunch with llamas, strike a pose in goat yoga or party it up with ponies. The Hayloft opened up five years ago and started with one horse. Now they have a variety of animals and a big lineup of events and summer camps.

A St. Paul milliner, Angie Hall Sandifer of Angie’s Hats, has seen plenty of her creations at Churchill Downs and that trend continues this weekend. She perfected the art of hat making after a job change and never looked back. She does have ready-to-wear hats in her Lowertown studio if you’re in a pinch for a fabulous hat, but also does custom hats.

Aviation museum plans breakfast, plane giveaway

Inside the Flying Cloud Airport is a hangar full of history. Twice a year, Wings of the North rolls open the doors for the public to see the collection of World War II planes. One of those events is Saturday May 6th. Wings of the North is hosting a pancake breakfast from 8am to 11am. Enter through Gate H on the Northwest corner of the field. Pancake breakfast tickets are available at the door for $8 per person; admission for kids 6-12 is $5; kids 5 and under are admitted free. A family of two adults and two kids is $20. They will also open the sweepstakes to win a plane or $35,000.

Art and flowers collide at Mia’s Art in Bloom

Flowers are often depicted in art, so why not the reverse, using flowers to make art. That’s the idea behind Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The event runs from April 27-30. There are 150 floral creations. Each artist selected a piece from Mia’s collection to use as inspiration for their designs. The event is free to attend.

Horse Expo gallops into the fairgrounds

The Minnesota State Fairgrounds will be bustling this weekend for the Minnesota Horse Expo. There will be horses representing many breeds, a marketplace, clinicians, presentations and entertainment. The show runs Friday, April 28, through Sunday, April 30. It is the state’s largest equine trade show.

Chanhassen Autoplex opens garages for show

Six times a year, the garage-condos of the Chanhassen Autoplex roll up the doors for all to explore. Each garage houses a unique car collection including Antique, Classics, Collector, Exotic, Muscle, Street Rod and even famous crime fighting cars from TV shows and movies. The event, Cars and Caves, takes place on the last Saturday of the month from April to September from 9am to 1pm. The event is free but they do accept donations to the charity of choice for each month. Donations from Saturday, April 29th will go to the non-profit, Wishes & More.
