Horse racing with a twist returns to Canterbury Park this weekend

Horse racing returns to the Shakopee racetrack this weekend — with a twist. The horses will be pulling people on skis through a series of snow obstacles. And while that sounds pretty extreme, wait until you see what else they have planned. FOX 9's Shayne Wells is at Canterbury Park with a sneak peek.

A Mardi Gras celebration awaits in St. Joseph

Instead of heading South for Mardi Gras, a celebration awaits just northwest of the Twin Cities. Krewe Restaurant is bringing the heritage of New Orleans to downtown St. Joseph. They’re hosting a Fat Tuesday buffet with live music starting at 5pm on the 21st. Jambalaya, gumbo and red beans are the core staples and they’re made from Chef Mateo Mackbee’s family recipes going back three generations. Chef Mateo is a native of Bloomington but his family is from New Orleans.

Northside Community Celebration puts a spotlight on talent in North Minneapolis

To celebrate Black History Month, The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra is teaming up with the Capri Theatre for a powerful showcase of North Minneapolis Talent. The Northside Celebration is back with concerts at North High on Friday, February 17th and Saturday, February 18th. A third concert will take place Sunday, February 19th at the Ordway in St. Paul.

New art exhibit in the peak of winter transports guests to sunny Palm Springs

Artists draw inspiration from the people in the lives and places they’ve seen. And one warm, bright, colorful location is the motivation behind a new exhibition at Minneapolis’ Gamut Gallery. The show is called ‘Astroturf’ but there’s only one sliver of actual AstroTurf in the gallery. Instead, it’s focused on Southern California in the 1950’s, a time when AstroTurf became a front yard staple. The show opens to the public on Friday, February 17th. It will be in place through March 18th. Gamut Gallery is located at 717 10th Street South in Minneapolis.
