Twin Cities Chef Brian Ingram headed to Turkey to help with earthquake relief

Twin Cities chef and restaurateur Brian Ingram is headed to Turkey to help after a 7.8 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks devastated Turkey and Syria, killing thousands. On FOX 9 Good Day Friday morning, Ingram said he's getting on a plane in a few hours to Turkey to help with earthquake relief, noting he has a partnership with the Gospel Culture Cafe in Turkey. “If I can go over there in the summer and walk in chai fields, then I damn sure should get over there when they really need it,” Ingram said.

Minnesota’s top robotics teams prepare to battle

The state’s top 48 high school and middle school robotics teams will face off in St. Paul this weekend for the FIRST Tech Challenge. The event begins Friday night at Roy Wilkins Auditorium and continues through Saturday. It is free and open to the public. At the start of the school year, the teams received this year’s challenge and designed a robot from scratch, even fabricating the parts on 3D printers. The top three teams will head to the World Championships in Houston. FOX 9 had a chance to check out the two teams from Maranatha Christian Academy in Booklyn Park who will compete this weekend.

New exhibit for kids allows them to step inside famous paintings

Well-known works of art have been brought to life at the Minnesota Children’s Museum. The new exhibit is called ‘Framed: Step into Art.’ Kids can step inside Grant Wood’s ‘Dinner for Threshers,’ or replace Mona Lisa’s face with their own. ‘Framed’ will be in place on the 4th floor through May 7th. Admission to the exhibit is included in general admission.

Morning sweetness: Burnsville staple opens its doors once again, with new owners

A classic donut shop in Burnsville is back in business. The name is the same, but that’s about it. Donut Star first opened in the 70’s. Last year, new owners purchased the property and began major renovations, adding a donut-themed rock star space mural. As for the donuts, they’re taking a new approach to baking the classics. Everything is made in-house by-hand. Donut Star is open Wednesday through Sunday, 6am to 2pm. It’s located at 2901 Cliff Road E.
