Victims, reports say boards to review church abuse flawed

The Associated Press investigation shows review boards have failed to uphold commitments to root out abusive priests, even rejecting complaints from survivors that were later validated by secular authorities. The AP checked all the roughly 180 dioceses in the U.S. for information, reviewed thousands of pages of church and court records and interviewed more than 75 abuse survivors, board members and others to uncover a tainted process where the church hierarchy holds the reins of power at every stage.

More documents released in call for removal of Crookston bishop

Archbishop Bernard Hebda said he has finished his investigation into the cover-up allegations against the Bishop of Crookston and has sent his findings to the Vatican. In a statement, the Diocese of Crookston says that Bishop Hoeppner has cooperated fully with the preliminary investigation. The statement says, "We await a response and remain hopeful that justice will prevail for all impacted by this action."
