Keeping Minnesota's roads safe: Deadly crashes are trending down

Minnesota is seeing fewer crashes on roads compared to the same time last year, but traffic safety officials hesitate to call this “positive" or “good," as the number of crashes is still up since the pandemic and with nearly 300 lives taken on roads so far this year.

Dakota County traffic input meeting held

Following a series of crashes in Dakota County this summer, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) held a public feedback meeting to gauge strategies to reduce wrecks at several problematic intersections.

Fire burns at construction site off I-494

A power line down caused a fire at a construction site near I-494 and East Bush Lake Road in Bloomington on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. Both directions of I-494 were closed due to the wire being down in the highway. Xcel Energy responded to secure the power and remove the wire. The Bloomington Fire Department extinguished the fire and the highway was reopened by 8:23 a.m.

Gustavus Adolphus community dealt tragic loss

A two-vehicle collision in western Minnesota left three members of the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team injured and another teammate dead Sunday afternoon, resulting in the entire community grieving their loss.
