Kids create battlescape out of cardboard

Adventures in Cardboard traces its beginnings to 2010. Since then, it’s grown immensely adding multiple locations and themes. Throughout this summer, 4,200 kids from the metro will spend a week at cardboard camp. We visited one of the camps happening at Central Park in South Bloomington. There were 100 kids running through the woods with cardboard weapons and armor playing an amped-up version of capture the flag. They also spent the week building a village with a giant cardboard castle. The camp combines theatrics, hands-on creative building and open play in natural places.

Minnesota businessman dies in WWII plane crash

A Minnesota businessman was killed Tuesday morning in a plane crash in Montana while flying a World War II-era plane. Paul Ehlen, founder of Precision Lens in Bloomington, was flying a vintage World War II P-40 Warhawk, when it suffered a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff from the Ravalli County Airport in far western Montana.

Massive construction project underway on I-494

Work began Tuesday on a years-long construction project along I-494 in the south metro. To start, for the next month, there will be nightly lane closures along I-494 in Bloomington and Richfield between Highway 77 running west to East Bush Lake Road. The closures will happen between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night.

Museum of Illusions opens in Mall of America

A new museum in the Twin Cities is centered around the magic of optical illusions. The Museum of Illusions is open now at the Mall of America on the second floor near the North entrance. The attraction has 60 different exhibits focused on vision, perception and the human brain. Guides are on site to help explain the illusions and assist with photography and tickets start at $20 and are available on the Museum of Illusions official website.
