Remote-controlled powerboats hit the waterways of Edina

Line up the boats, it’s time for a parade. The Edina Model Yacht Club will have their boats out patrolling the waters of Centennial Lakes Park Sunday evening in Edina. The nonprofit club has been in existence since 1991. Today they have 80 members who operate remote-controlled vessels that range from battleships to sail boats, powerboats and even a Minion tug boat. Lighthouse Night and Torchlight Concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13. It is free to attend. The boats will be out starting around 5 p.m. The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. with the John Philip Sousa Memorial Band. The night concludes with fireworks.

Cooks of Crocus Hill, Bellecour Bakery have merged

It’s official, Cooks of Crocus Hill and Bellecour Bakery have merged to become Cooks | Bellecour. Along with the new name, the team behind the brands have opened a third location in Edina. The shop is on Market Street in the 50th & France shopping district. Like the North Loop and St. Paul locations, it will offer cooking classes, kitchen retail and a bakery counter with the Bellecour staples. The owners, Marie Dwyer, Karl Benson and Chef Gavin Kaysen call it a fully immersive culinary experience. The Edina shop is open seven days a week and is located at 3934 Market St.

Edina Art Fair is this weekend

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to check out the Edina Art Fair happening this weekend in and around 50th and France. It’s one of the top art fairs in the country with hundreds of artists participating. The Edina Art Fair starts at noon on Friday, June 2. It runs until 7 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday the art fair is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday you can browse art from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plan your trip ahead of time as traffic can be challenging and parking is limited. They do offer a shuttle from Southdale Mall.

Edina High School choir marks 50 years

The Edina High School choral program is preparing to put on a show 50 years in the making. In fact, the same students who started ‘Current Jam’ in 1973 will be joining current students on stage for a special performance. Even the choir director who created this show will be in the audience to take it in with his grandchildren. Current Jam was created as a way to highlight individual and small group performances and give students the chance to perform pop tunes. To date, more than 4,000 students have participated in Current Jam. The performances will take place on May 18 and May 19 at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday May 20 at Fick Auditorium in Edina High School.

Edina teen charged in attempted carjacking

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office confirms one of five teenagers involved in an attempted carjacking on April 26 has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery. The other suspects’ cases remain under review.

Southdale Center lockdown lifted after gunfire outside Edina mall

Shots fired outside the Southdale Center mall in Edina left damage to the building but no apparent victims. Edina police say they responded around 8 p.m. Wednesday night for the reports of shots fired. At the mall, police say they quickly determined this wasn't an "active shooter" situation but put the mall in lockdown as a precaution.

Shots heard near Southdale Mall in Edina

People inside the mall say they heard gunshots, and the building was placed under lockdown, but it has since been lifted. Authorities say they responded to shots fired call, but more information has not been released as of Wednesday night.
