‘The Name Jar’ opens at Stages Theatre Company

A world-premiere play debuted over the weekend at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins. "The Name Jar" is based on a book that’s a top teachers’ pick. To create the show, Stages teamed up with Theater Mu. It’s a family-friendly show about celebrating the meaning behind your name, based on the book by Yangsook Choi. The show runs through April 14. Stages Theatre Company will host a special meet and greet with the author Yangsook Choi and the playwright Sue Pak on April 14. Yangsook will be signing copies of her book before the show, and will be hosting a talk back after the show. The event is reserved for ticketholders to the 1 p.m. performance.

Hopkins doggy daycare, boarding utilizes education

There’s something new for our four-legged friends in Hopkins. Adventure is Barking has opened Exploring Tails Camp and Social Club, a cutting-edge dog daycare and boarding facility offering a homey space and enrichment. Dogs will participate in specialized jobs, there will be individualized training sessions, and dogs that stay the night will end the evening with a dog-friendly movie and doggy popcorn. The new facility is located in Hopkins at 10921 Excelsior Boulevard.

New in Hopkins: Pink Ivy Kitchen & Bar

The couple behind Advellum at the Malcom Yards Market have opened their first full-service restaurant on Main Street in Hopkins. Pink Ivy will offer lunch and dinner service Tuesday through Sunday. Michael and Viorica Shaughnessy describe the menu as modern-American fare infused with seasonal twists.

MN man arrested for death of Los Angeles model

A Hopkins man was arrested at his home in Minnesota for his alleged role in the killing of Los Angeles model, Maleesa Mooney. Mooney was found dead inside her apartment in Los Angeles back in September.

Stages Theatre Company: Looking back at 40 years

Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary. To kick it off, they’re premiering a new show, "The Day You Begin," and bringing back an audience favorite, "Spookley the Square Pumpkin." Another favorite that’s coming back is "Beauty and the Beast." It was the first show Stages ever produced in 1984. Millie O’Brien will be playing Chip in the show. Her family roots touch on the longevity of Stages. Her grandpa is the architect who designed the building and her dad acted at Stages when he was a kid and is now on the board. "The Day you Begin" runs through Oct. 22, while "Spookley" plays through Oct. 29. "Beauty and the Beast" returns Nov. 17.

Hopkins man charged in girlfriend's murder

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has filed 2nd degree Murder charges against a Hopkins man for killing his one-time girlfriend just days after getting out of jail for assaulting her.
