Jamal Mitchell's friend: He's the 'hero the City of Minneapolis needed'

Officer Luke Weatherspoon, a friend of Jamal Mitchell, spoke at his memorial service on Tuesday, saying Mitchell would always make time for his friends and was always so thoughtful. He was a hero on and off the job, with an extensive shoe collection. The day before Mitchell died, he jumped in the pool to save a child who was struggling to swim - with his beloved sneakers on. He donned his uniform proudly and took great pride in the oath he gave, Weatherspoon said. "Mitch is the hero the City of Minneapolis needed ... We must continue the legacy that he designed," Weatherspoon said. "We must continue Mitch's legacy of community engagement."
