Minneapolis-St. Paul, Duluth airports set to get upgrades

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith announced federal funding for an expansion of Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, and upgrades to Duluth International Airport's air traffic control tower. 

Lutsen Lodge turned to rubble after huge fire

An overnight fire has destroyed the historic Lutsen Resort lodge in northern Minnesota. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said crews were notified of a fire alarm at the Lutsen Resort's main lodge just before 12:30 a.m. Staff members reported seeing smoke coming from the floor in the lobby area of the lodge. The sheriff's office said the building was "completely engulfed" in flames.

More than $1 billion awarded to Minnesota, Wisconsin bridge

Officials announced Monday that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded nearly $1.06 billion in federal funding to replace the aging John A. Blatnik Bridge between Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin.

Any day now Minnesota state officials could learn whether the Northern Lights Express will secure key federal funding. When Minnesota approved $195 million in state dollars, that unlocked the ability to apply for federal grants. As the Minnesota Department of Transportation awaits the feds' decision, it has started negotiating with BNSF Railway, which owns the line where the train would operate.

Adam Johnson death arrest made

Police in England say they have made an arrest in connection to the death of Adam Johnson, a hockey player from Minnesota who was killed while on the ice in October.
