The Asheville community is now working to find more permanent homes for the animals rescued during the historic flood.

It’s another seasonable and sunny day on Friday ahead of a windy and temperature-fluctuating weekend. 

Many Minnesotans are either on the ground or on the way to help with recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene. From The Minnesota National Guard, the American Red Cross, to Xcel Energy.

Amid the devastation, this Florida town has been struck by three hurricanes in just 13 months, leaving residents struggling to rebuild their homes and lives.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funding to make it through the hurricane season, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday.

Out-of-state volunteers are also lending a helping hand, offering to deliver supplies and rescue people stranded by Hurricane Helene.

It’s been one week since Hurricane Helene made landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast in Florida, decimating communities across the Southeast and leaving more than 200 people dead in six states.

Minnesota National Guard soldiers and Xcel Energy employees are heading to areas hit by Hurricane Helene to assist with relief efforts. 

It's been very warm over the last several weeks but some frost will be possible across a lot of the metro area on Thursday night.

Overall, the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota have had a very wet year, but it has included a couple of long stretches of dry conditions. 

Hurricane Helene's devastation has led to volunteers from across the U.S. answering the call for help.

According to FEMA, one inch of floodwater can cause up to $25,000 in damage.

In a normal year, fall is the time to get your hands dirty: fertilizing, aerating, and re-seeding, to make sure your lawn looks its best next spring. But this fall has been anything but normal.
